Old Strand Video is an independent producer of video content. We are helping to tell history and our stories and, in the process provide compelling content to Public Broadcast Stations and other online and on air outlets. KVIE in Sacramento runs much of our material, and then can feed the programs to other stations around the country. As of October 2017, our recent production of “Guadalcanal: Island of the Big Death,” has run on about 20 stations across the country including markets like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orlando and Tampa. The bulk of our focus is historical and natural history programs that showcase California and the Western US. We have received a lot of interest in our new program “Lost Falls of Yosemite,” and anticipate wide distribution due to the world’s fascination with this special national park. After a long drought in the Western States, 2017 brought record snow and rain to California, and this program looks at the remarkable impact on the waterfalls.

We are always looking for sponsors interested in supporting our efforts at telling these important stories. We are thrilled that the Setzer Foundation has funded the recent production of “Sturgeon’s Mill: Alive Again.”  The program looks at the early days of California logging through the eyes of an amazing old steam powered lumber mill restored and now used as a living museum.  Sponsorships allow us to continue to produce these stories that are especially important to Californians. We are currently in production on several new programs.

Sponsoring these programs, as with sponsoring all PBS material, is a great way to help the community AND connect your message, your business or your organization to some programs that helps educate viewers. It ties you into some positive programing.

As a sponsor, you can be involved with just a simple mention and graphic at the beginning or end of a program, or fund a: 10,: 15 or :20 second spot that mentions your support and a talks about your business or organization.

You could have a local sponsorship that just targets the Sacramento, Stockton, and Modesto market on KVIE.

We have some programs that appeal to a broader, regional audience, and air on several California stations. The goal at Old Strand is to create programs about California that will air around the country, so we are frequently looking for companies or groups that want to reach that big audience, and be tied to one of these compelling California stories.

“Chasing the Gold”
We look back at the Gold Rush of 1849 that helped create the State of California and the new Gold Rush as everyday people spend their weekends hunting for gold.  The storms of 2017 brought new interest in Gold.  The old history is fascinating – from the music the miners brought, to the old Gold Mines that are still open.

“Saving the Skunk.”
A classic piece of California History, the Skunk first hauled lumber through the Coast range of California, now its just tourists that want to remember the old days. But keeping the railroad running has become a big challenge. We look at the history and some dramatic efforts to keep the Skunk up and running.

“America’s Great Lost Highways”
Most Californian’s zip along on the freeways at 70 mph. But we found some old roads that were built in an earlier time, and are made to take slowly… to avoid the potholes, and the savor the views. Terrific old highways with great stories and loads of character.  In the process, the program will give viewers some great ideas for weekend escapes.

“California in Color”
From the super bloom that lit up Death Valley, to the Dogwoods that greeted visitors to a Yosemite, swollen with record snowfall and rains in 2017, to that magical time in eastern High Sierra when the Aspen turn gold, California is a natural landscape of extraordinary colors.

“California's Dust Bowl Highway”
The classic John Steinbeck novel “The Grapes of Wrath,” tells a big part of the California Story. The Dust Bowl sent thousands fleeing the plains states, like Oklahoma and Kansas, migrating to California, working the fields, just to stay alive. We retrace the route of the Joad Family from Oklahoma to the Weedpatch migrant worker camp outside Bakersfield. Featured prominently in the book and the movie, it’s loaded with history and celebrated each year with music and storytelling from the old Dust Bowl Survivors.
